IRTC establishes courses that train professionals in industry, research, and policy-making, making them “material risk managers” capable of identifying and taking action to mitigate raw material supply risks. The courses are standardized and certified in accordance with ISO/IEC 17024, under guidance by a dedicated expert group. Certificates are issued by the Fraunhofer Personnel Certification Authority.
After successfully taking a basic IRTC course, participants are able to:

- name the main features of the EU methodology
- recognize the variables in the EU methodology
- apply the EU methodology to a raw material
- identify why criticality determinations differ among studies

- describe common mitigation measures and their implementation hurdles
- describe the political and regulatory context of critical raw material management
- describe basic features of the EU Critical Raw Materials Act
- describe possible impacts of the EU Critical Raw Materials Act


The IRTC Basic Training is endorsed by the European Federation of Geologists (EFG). Holders of the title European Geologist (EuroGeol) are eligible for a 20% discount on the IRTC Basic Training course.
