This course was organized by the IRTC Training team and was taught by Luis Tercero, Dieuwertje Schrijvers, and Alessa Hool. The single-day introductory program covered the fundamentals of criticality and the evaluation of critical raw materials, providing essential background to benefit the most from the IRTC conference. A deep dive into the EU assessment methodology was taken, and participants learned about its composition, factors, indicators, and common data sources. After the course, participants had insight into the considerations behind criticality assessments and were able to reproduce a standard procedure of an EU criticality assessment for a given material. The course also analyzed and discussed evolving CRM policies such as the EU Critical Raw Materials Act and their impact on critical raw materials and their management. Upon completion of the course, participants could take an exam that validated a module of the certified IRTC training program.
